EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE EDUCATION

SES’s Smt. Kapila Khandvala College of Education is an established teacher education college. In the year 1987 the college independently offered ECC.Ed. Programme ( formerly  known as Pre-primary teacher training programme ). The programme was popular and in demand, which helped the college secure affiliation from the University of Mumbai for the said programme.

The alumni of this programme are well placed as heads of reputed ECCE centers in different parts of Mumbai. Regulatory requirements by the apex body prompted the University to affiliate only with the two year programme. The institution then decided to de-affiliate with the University and with conviction and faith continued to offer its well established one year programme independently, for several year this programme attracted students.

In 2013, due to NCTE regulations the programme was discontinued. However, all the learnings and experience in the programme were applied to the Pre-primary section of the school, which today is a well sought after Early Childhood Care Centre.

Our commitment to Teacher education & Pedagogy and understanding the importance of teacher training for foundation years, we have revived the ECC.Ed. Programme. We have endeavored to start the ECC.Ed. in the dual mode delivery model with a cutting age curriculum and syllabi which alligns with the NEP 2020. This exercise is being implemented through the extension service of the college which is being highly appreciated. Now we plan to extend the programme as a one year certificate course in Early Childhood Care Education. The Board of Studies and the Academic Council of the institution have approved the syllabus and commended the course. They have recommended it to be offered as a regular certification from 2024-25 for prospective takers.
